U.S. Climate Change Policy The United States is committed to working internationally to address the long-term challenge of climate change while also ensuring that our climate policy is consistent with our broader and urgent development goals. Effective policies are based on meeting the multiple objectives of improving energy security, promoting economic growth and development, reducing poverty, reducing traditional air pollution, and mitigating greenhouse gases. The United States has invited Poland to join the Methane-to-Market Initiative The Methane to Markets Partnership is an international initiative that focuses on advancing cost-effective, near-term methane recovery and use as a clean energy source. The Partnership will reduce global methane emissions to enhance economic growth, promote energy security, improve the environment, and reduce greenhouse gases. Other benefits include improving mine safety, reducing waste, and improving local air quality. The Partnership initially targets three major methane sources: landfills, underground coalmines, and natural gas and oil systems. The Partnership encourages interested development banks, non-governmental organizations, or other private sector entities to participate by becoming a member of the Partner Network.
